PM Hun Sen Urges China To Promote Agricultural Investment in Cambodia

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen received here today at the Peace Palace visiting Vice Minister of China's National Development and Reform Commission Mr. Zhang Xiaoqiang.

Mr. Zhang informed the Cambodian premier of his visit, the purpose of which he said is to strengthen and expand the relationship and cooperation between the two countries after the leaders of the two governments announced in December 2010 to raise the two countries' relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation, Ieng Sophalet, assistant to Samdech Techo Hun Sen told reporters after the meeting.

Mr. Zhang Xiaoqiang further said during his visit in the Kingdom, he is to visit Chinese firms operating in Cambodia in order to encourage them to continue and expand their investment in contribution to the development of Cambodia.

He also pledged to do his utmost to further promote the cooperation between Cambodia and China. The bilateral trade between both countries was US$1.4 billion last year, he said, adding that he will urge Chinese companies to import more goods from Cambodia this year.

In reply, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked Mr. Zhang Xiaoqiang for his determination to encourage more Chinese investments in Cambodia. He asked China to consider importing agricultural products from Cambodia including rice, corn and cassava, etc.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also asked the Chinese side to promote investment in agricultural processing plants in Cambodia. -AKP
