Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Hor Namhong has rejected his Thai counterpart's request to Cambodia to join the Meeting of General Border Committee in Thailand. We recognize only the meetings hosted by Indonesia, the current Chair of ASEAN, in line with the Declaration of the Chair of ASEAN dated Feb. 22, 2011, H.E. Hor Namhong told reporters today at Phnom Penh International Airport before leaving for Cambodia-Thailand border meetings in Indonesia.
We have accepted the Indonesian foreign minister's invitation to attend the Meetings of the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Commission on Demarcation of Land Boundary (JBC) and General Border Committee (GBC), and the consultative meeting between the foreign ministers of Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia, he stressed.
H.E. Hor Namhong further affirmed that Cambodia is ready, both in legal and national defense issues. "If there is a renewed armed clash [between Cambodia and Thailand], the public opinion will know clearly who invades who," he said.
"Cambodia has accepted immediately the terms of reference for the Indonesian ceasefire observers, but up to now, Thailand has not yet responded. This clearly shows that who has the will and who does not," he added.
According to H.E. Hor Namhong, on Apr. 9 there will be the Special ASEAN-Japan Foreign Minister Meeting in response to the Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan.
The Cambodian delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense H.E. Gen. Tea Banh, Senior Minister in charge of Special Affairs and Chairman of the Cambodian-Thai Joint Commission on Demarcation for Land Boundary H.E. Var Kimhong, and other high-ranking officials of the Royal Government of Cambodia. -AKP
