Eurppean Union To Support Eight Local Human Rights Projects

THE European Union has announced over US$2 million in funding for eight human rights projects in Cambodia.

The projects, to be implemented mainly by Cambodian NGOs, will focus on human rights, democracy and the rule of law, according to a statement released yesterday. "Human rights and democracy form the cornerstone of the EU and are fundamental to all activities supported by the EU in Cambodia," Michelle Labeeu, the EU Delegation's Head of Operations, said in the statement. The funded organisations include the Cambodian Centre for Human Rights, local election monitor Comfrel, the Indigenous Community Support Organisation, Protection of Juvenile Justice, Silaka through its partner DanchurchAid, and Legal Aid of Cambodia, through its partner REDD BARNA.
