Cambodian Troops Arrest Thai MP, 'Extremists' for Illegal Entry

Cambodian troops has arrested seven Thai nationals including a Democrat MP for Bangkok Panich Vikitsreth, and Veeera Somkwamkid, co-leader of the Thailand Patriot Network for “illegally” surveying [border areas] in Cambodian territory.
 According to the Deum Ampil Online News in Cambodian language, Cambodian PM Hun Sen has publicly stated that these [arrested] people would be transported to Phnom Penh and held in detention at Cambodian immigration police. He added that on Thursday [30 Dec] they would be send to Phnom Penh Municipal Court for trial according to the law for their entry into Cambodia without permission. After that, if found guilty, they would be sent to Prey Sar prison. PM Hun Sen stressed that he would not intervene and would allow the police and court to decide on the case.
PM Hun Sen said that the arrest would not lead to renewed diplomatic and border conflict.
