Cambodian Army Officer Warns Thai Aircraft Against Future Airspace Violation

2 June 2011 -- Cambodia Express News in Khmer
English version by LyKC

According to an officer of the 51st Infantry Battalion in Banteay Meanchey, Thailand's Second Division in Prachinburi claimed that the propeller plane that flew along the Thai border and intruded some 700 to 2,000 meters deep into Cambodian airspace on 31 May and 1 June was a civilian aircraft.

An officer of the 51st Infantry Battalion told CEN [Cambodian Express News] on 2 June that his counterpart in Thailand's Second Division had contacted him to tell that the two-propeller plane that hugged the Thai border in Sra Kaev and Buriram provinces on 31 May and violated Cambodia's airspace in Banteay Meanchey and Oddar Meanchey provinces on 1 June was a civilian aircraft that Thai Agriculture Ministry used to survey crops, monitor rains, spray liquefied gas, and make rains.

The Thai Army tried to justify its lack of cooperation by claiming that it had informed Cambodia through the Thai-Cambodian Border Liaison Office, but probably the note was stuck somewhere and failed to reach the Cambodian side.

The officer of the 51st Infantry Battalion said that he has started investigating this case in order to expose the Thai side's devious character. The officer also gave the Thai side this warning: "If in the future any patrol plane is patrolling and violating Cambodia's airspace again, I would not vouch for its safety."
