A new US$28.2 million Container Terminal of Phnom Penh Autonomous Port in Kandal province began its construction work yesterday.
Addressing the participants during the groundbreaking ceremony, Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen expressed his hope that the new port will mainly contribute to the national economic development.
Premier Techo Hun Sen also highly praised China for its economic growth and said that China's economy plays a vital role, while the world economy is still in trouble.
He added that strong economic growth in China would provide better terms on loan deals as well as more tourists and exports from Cambodia.
The new port is being constructed under the soft loan of the People's Republic of China.
Cambodia-China bilateral trade has reached this year US$1 billion, and the two governments are pushing to increase to US$2.5 billion by 2015.
