Thai Premier Says To Lead Diplomatic Efforts if Situation of 2 Thais Exacerbates

Bangkok 3 February 2011 -- National News Bureau of Thailand

Prime Minister Abisit Vejjajiva said the government still continues to help getting the two remaining Thais back from Cambodia while urging all sides to reconcile their political differences.

The Government will prove to Cambodia that the two of them were not spying for Thailand at the time of the arrest while they are set to appeal for bails. Mr Abhisit responded to the PAD's request for their release within 3 days that the government is doing everything it can. He added even though the illegal entry issue is being handled at the ministerial level; he, as a prime minister, will lead the diplomatic efforts if the situation exacerbates.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya will also bring the matter forward during the 7th Joint Border Commission meeting set to take place in Cambodia. Prime Minister Abhisit also denied the claim made by the Red Shirt's lawyer, Robert Amsterdam, that he has a British citizenship, saying while he was studying in England, all tuition fees were paid at an international student rate. And each entry to England also required a visa.
