Samdech Chea Sim Highlights CPP-Led Government's Foreign Affairs Successes After 1993

Bangkok 7 January 2011 -- an excerpt of Samdech Chea Sim's prepared Speech delivered at the party's quaters --LyKC

At the gathering on 7 January at the ruling Cambodian People's Party [CPP] headquarters to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the January-7 Victory Day [the day when Khmer Rouge was toppled], Samdech Chea Sim, the President of the Senate and of the CPP, highlighted some of the major foreign-affair successes achieved under the CPP-led governments from 1993 up to present.
The crux of the foreign-affairs achievements over the last 18 years includes:

      ·   Regionally and globally integrated Cambodia into the international community, while strengthening better relations with other countries and international institutions. [Cambodia joined ASEAN in 1999 and WTO in 2004.]; and

·  Actively participated in the regional and global affairs. Cambodia [some 900 forces] has been joining
the UN demining and peacekeeping operations in countries [including Sudan, Chad and Lebanon]. Cambodia is touted as a role model in its successful demining activities for many countries to emulate.
On the Khmer Rouge tribunal and relations with Thailand, the CPP [or the Cambodian Government as CPP is a ruling party] will:
·    Support the Khmer Rouge court to try Khmer Rouge's most senior leaders while calling for continued moral and financial supports so the trial process would successfully be completed; and

·    Reaffirm support for the position of the Royal Government on the peaceful resolution of the border problems with Thailand on the basis of ensuring sovereignty and territorial integrity aimed at building a border of peace, cooperation and development. The CPP is content with the latest steps towards the normalized situation a long the Cambodian-Thai border, and with the recently-achieved detente between the two countries.
