According to a report from the border area in Samlot district, since 16 January 2011 some 50 armed black-clad Thai soldiers opposite the border area in Samlot district had been coming to order [Cambodian] soldiers and border defense policemen in the area to move back about 18 meters from where they are stationed. The Cambodian soldiers and policemen, however, did not move back as ordered by the black-clad Thai soldiers.The report also said that Cambodian troops and police stationed there are border defense troops from unit 502 and police border defense unit 310 in charge of defending the border in Samlot district.
Still according to the report, the failure by the black-clad Thai soldiers to order Cambodian soldiers and police to move back 18 meters from their positions did not cause tension along the border in Samlot district. Up to now, soldiers from unit 502 and border policemen from unit 310 remain at their positions.
Haem Sarat, deputy chief of the border liaison office in that area told Kampuchea Thmey that black-clad Thai soldiers did come and give the order but we did not listen to their order.
Haem Sarat also said that Cambodian soldiers and policemen stationed there told the black-clad Thai soldiers to leave the border problem to those in the border committee to resolve, and as for their order to our soldiers and policemen to withdraw, do not nurture any hope.
Another report said that earlier Thai soldiers had sneaked in, removed the flag of our Cambodian troops, and replaced it with the Thai flag in Cambodian territory. Later on, however, Cambodian troops removed the Thai flag and threw it away. And now the black-clad Thai soldiers came in to order Cambodian troops to move back 18 meters from where they are stationed, and also banned the laying of drainage pipes at border pass 400. Our armed forces stationed there are resolutely determined not to lose even one hand span.
